Here you will find a variety of resources to explore. The narrative of what self defense is or what you believe it to be may not be what you think. Having accurate information is important. Preparation is key.
The resources listed all have anchors in my self defense instructor journey. There are books I’ve read, people I know and trained with, and programs I have examined. There is a wealth of information here, please take the time to check them out.
Gift of Fear: Survival Signals That Protect Us from Violence is the most recommended book to read in the self defense field. Protecting the Gift and Fear Less are others from de Becker.
This book, When Violence is the Answer: Learning How to Do What It Takes When Your Life is At Stake was required reading as a part of involvement with 500 Rising. It was an eye-opening read.
Meditations on Violence: A Comparison of Martial Arts Training and Real World Violence is a book every martial artists need to read. Other books from Rory include:
Conflict Communication: A New Paradigm in Conscious Communication;
Facing Violence: Preparing for the Unexpected; Scaling Force: Dynamic Decision Making Under Threat of Violence; and Force Decisions: A Citizen's Guide to Understanding How Police Determine Appropriate Use of Force
Every year there is a training that take place in Minnesota. More details coming soon.
